How long have you been trying to make money online? Has it been a few months, or a year? Have you been able to make any money yet? Are you starting to get frustrated with it all?

Have you joined any business opportunities that claim you could make money within a week, but you are still waiting and haven’t made any money yet? Do you ever get the idea that the successful people online only tell you part of the process and leave out the important details that will help you make money?

Business Model

What is your business model? I ask this because I see so many people online today that do not have an effective business model. Your business model is the methods you use to get customers and to keep customers.

If you have ever used a Traffic Exchange, then you may have seen some of the same failed business models. Why would someone work so hard to get traffic and then send the traffic to someone else’s website? People on the Traffic Exchanges use their Affiliate Links to send their hard earned traffic to. All you are doing is promoting the Affiliate Program and your efforts serve the Affiliate Program and not you.

Here is the big picture: People do not buy into anything the first time they see it! It usually takes seven or more times of exposure before a person will buy into something. You use the same Affiliate Program as a few hundred other people on the Traffic Exchange. People see the Affiliate promotion over and over again. They may click on your link, but likely this is not happening for you, is it? The only one that really makes out with this business model is the owner of the Affiliate Program! Their promotion is beeing seen hundreds or thousands of times through the efforts of all the Affiliates.

There is a Better Way to do This!

There is a much better business model to follow. All of the traffic that you work hard to generate should be directed to your webpages. Create a squeeze page, which is a short sales letter that promotes your newsletter, ezine or other email message series. Get a digital information product, such as a report, small ebook, or write something yourself that relates with the products or service that you sell. The squeeze page will also promote this digital information product.

The squeeze page is known by a wide variety of terms. The main function of the squeeze page is to get the name and email address of your visitors. You should have an opt-in form on your squeeze page that gets the visitors information and sends this to your AutoResponder service. I use GetResponse for my AutoResponder service and you can sign up with them through the link. You can also use any other service you want. Do a Google search for “autoresponder”.

Direct all traffic to your squeeze page(s)! You can set up a Thank You page through your AutoResponder service. This page should thank your visitor for submitting their information and let them know that the digital information product will come in their email after they confirm their subscription. You can also use this valuable resource to make the first promotion for your own product or service, or for your Affiliate Program, Affiliate Product or Affiliate Service.

What Do You Do With Your List?

Once you have set up your AutoResponder and your squeeze page, then you will start building your list. Yes this is the “List” that everyone talks about in Internet Marketing. You may have heard the phrase, “The Money Is In The List”. Well this is the list I am talking about.

As stated above, most people will only buy into something after seeing it for seven times or more. By getting the name and email address of your visitor, you can make sure that you are the one putting the promotion in front of their eyes seven or more times!! This will increase the number of people that join your Affiliate Program. This will boost your sales of any product or service that you are promoting.

I know most people today would like to make some extra money for a wide variety of reasons. The rising costs of just about everything. Maybe you want to get enough to finally take that vacation you have been dreaming about. Then there are the little surprises that come along that require money to resolve.

Regardless of why you want to make extra money, you may be looking into how to make money online. More people seem to be turning to the Internet as a means to make money. You are likely bombarded every day with email and websites that boast about how an Internet Marketer was able to make millions of dollars online from very humble beginnings. There are many people that have made a lot of money online. I know a few personally.

What you often do not hear about is the countless people that try to make money online, but fail at it miserably. These people fail for a variety of reasons, but often times it is just because they do not know how to make money online. They wander aimlessly through business ventures. Some fall prey to the scam artists, and yes there are plenty of scams out there in cyberspace.

Focus

One factor that I have noticed is that people lack focus. They may not know what they need to do to make their business venture a success. They may not have clear direction or even know where to turn for help. I was guilty of this myself. I started one business venture then went in various tangents before getting the first venture working. It is easy when you get new ideas to just start working on the new idea and you tend to forget about the old ideas.

I also had in my mind from my past employment that you need to multi-task to get things done. I still catch myself trying to do a hundred things at once. What I have found is that it takes longer to get anything done this way. You need to focus on one thing at a time and work to get that one thing done before you start on the next thing. Your mind has to sort through all the data and decide what needs to be done next and when you are multi-tasking this has to be done every time you switch tasks.

Help!

Do not be afraid to admit that you need help. When you are learning something new you may need some extra help to grasp some key thoughts and ideas. Look for information about what you are doing. It is always good to research and find out as much information about what you want to do as possible before you start.

Digital information is a great way to get information. You can download this information from the Internet and it is available for your use immediately. You may be wondering where to get this information? You can start by signing up for newsletters, ezines and home study courses. Most Internet Marketers provide these things for free, if you sign up. You may have noticed the sign up form at the upper right side of this Blog. A good suggestion is to use an email browser on your computer to read your email. Most browsers will let you save email messages in folders. I start a folder for Internet Marketers, then create sub-folders for each person. I then save the newsletters and other email from each person in the folder. This is especially good for sequential emails such as a home study course. Then you can go back and read the posts in order.

There is a common belief among new people on the Internet that if you build a website, then people will just flock to it. This is not always the case. Sometimes it requires some work to get people to come to your website. It also takes some time and patience.

The search engines can be a great source of traffic to your website. Once you have your website online and functional, then you need to submit your website address or URL to the search engines. Submit your URL to the top three search engines; Google, MSN and Yahoo. You can also submit your URL to Alexa and DMOZ to make sure you get listed with the most search engines possible. It is not necessary to submit to every search engine out there. Other search engines will use one of the above sources to gather information for their search results.

It will take up to a month before you get listed on the search engines using the above links. You can help this along by providing a Sitemap for the search engines to use when they crawl your website. The design of your website and the navigational links between webpages will also help the search engines to crawl your website.

The routines called “Spiders”, used to crawl a website are complex. The “Spider” will look at the code for your website and add certain key information from your website into the database for the search engine. The “Spider” will count the number of times words and phrases are repeated on each webpage. The more times a word or phrase are repeated shows the relevance of the word of phrase to your webpage. The “Spider” also checks every link that it encounters and looks at the webpage that is linked.

How Can You Get Listed Faster?

You can get listed with the search engines faster by getting a link to your webpage from a high traffic website. This can be done by submitting articles to Article Directories that have a high page rank with Google. You can also post comments or articles in Forums that have a high page rank with Google. Make sure you use a signature with your link to the webpage you want to get listed faster. The search engines will crawl a high traffic website more often, especially if new content is being added to the website on a regular basis.

Once the “Spider” comes across your link, then your website will get crawled starting with the webpage you link to. Make sure you have links from that webpage to at least your home page. Make sure your home page links to all parts of your website that you want listed with the search engines.

Have you ever wondered why one person is successful at something, but another person is not successful at the same thing? Does the successful one have an unfair advantage? Is it possible for the one that did not succeed to overcome the obstacle that prevented them from succeeding?

There is a lot to be said about having a positive outlook. It is impossible to succeed if you do not think you will. You may have heard the children’s story about the “Little Engine That Could”. If you think you can do something, then you will do what it takes to succeed. If you do not think you can, then you likely will not succeed.

You may have heard someone make the statement, “I do not know why I even bother doing this, because I can not win.” Maybe you have said the same thing yourself. Often times you do not hear such blatant self defeat. Sometimes it goes unsaid. Sometimes we say over and over, “I hope this does not happen.” It almost always happens anyway, why? Could it be because we focus on the negative thing too much. Maybe we should focus on the positive things instead. Say, “I hope this happens”. Hope for the opposite thing to happen instead of hoping the negative thing does not happen.

Easy Is What You Know

Another reason for failure is lack of knowledge. When you have limited knowledge of something it makes it very difficult to succeed at it. Knowledge is power. When you fail at something turn it around and ask why you failed. Dig into the matter and discover what caused the failure. Ask other people to give an honest analysis of your failure, because sometimes we can not see our own faults. Expect to get an answer that may upset you, but learn from the mistakes and try not to repeat them.

Learn from other people. Do not be afraid to ask others for information about the things that are not clear to you. Dig around on the Internet and find all the information you can about what you are trying to do. Try to learn something new every day. Sign up for the free newsletters and take the time to read the information you receive. Buy information products and then read the information.

The most important thing of all is to take action. Once you learn something new it does no good unless you use it. You probably have heard the expression, “Use it or lose it”. If you do not use the information then you will forget about it and never put it to use.

Build Relationships

Do not try to sell to people. Instead work to build a relationship with them. People will be more likely to buy something from someone they trust. Show them that you want to help them and then honestly try to help them.

Create an Autoresponder message series for your opt-in list that has useful information that they can benefit from. Do not send a barrage of promotions with no useful information. Alternate your blatant promotions with a few soft promotions, that is a message that has useful information with a short line for your promotion. Make the promotion relate to the message and compliment the information you give. There is nothing wrong with trying to sell something, because you are in the business to make money. People get tired of having hundreds of email messages with no useful information.

Give people more then they expect and they will keep coming back to buy from you. Try to always over deliver on the things that you promote. People like to think that they are getting a deal, more for the money. “Perception is Reality!” A high perceived value makes people feel good.
