The simple answer is yes, you can make money with a Free Website. The long answer is a little more involved. Most of the time a Free website will come with some features that may take away from potential sales. There will most likely be links on your Free Website that are placed there by the host. These could be banner advertisements for products and services offered by the host of your Free Website. These could also be Pay Per Click (PPC) advertisements such as Google AdSense that will make money for the host. These could be Affiliate banner advertisements that promote Affiliate Programs for the host.

These extra advertisements can detract from your website. They might be an eyesore. They will likely take your visitors to someone else’s website or webpage. The expense that you make in your time or money will then be wasted, because the visitor that you worked so hard to get will make money for someone else.

What Is Your Website URL?

This is an important part of Internet marketing. You want people to remember your website address or URL. When you get a free website you may likely get a sub-domain for your website address. A sub-domain looks like this:

www.your-name.host-domain-name.com

This can present a problem for you, because people that visit your website will likely only remember the domain name. This means that when they try to come back to your website, they will end up on the host website. That is a very good thing for the host, but really stinks for you!

Sometimes you may not even get a sub-domain and your website address may look like this:

www.host-domain-name.com/your-name/

This is actually a worse scenario then the previous one. You will help the host build the Page Ranking for the main website when ever you bring traffic to your website. The host may try to sell this off and say that you can benefit from the higher Page Ranking too. I fail to see how this could benefit you, especially if there are 100 webpages that look just like yours on the same domain name. The first website that was put on that domain name will likely be the only one that the search engines will list, because all the rest are duplicates.

There is also a problem when people try to come back to your website. They will likely only remember the first part of the website address and end up at the host website. This will be a waste of your efforts to bring traffic to your website.

As you can see the answer is yes, you can make money with a Free Website, but how much money will you loose. You will also waste time and money to get traffic to a website and then have them click on the host advertisements and make money for your host.

You will find some great features and the price is not as much as you may think. It doesn’t hurt to check them out and you have nothing to lose by just looking.
