I am sure you have asked this question many times this year or even in years past. Have you ever seen gas prices so high? Can you remember when gas did not cost over $2US per gallon? Lately just seeing gas for $3US per gallon would be great.

The bad thing is that when the price of gas goes up so does everything else that depends on petroleum for manufacturing and distribution. It is not just the price of gas that keeps going higher. Why does this happen?

I am not an economist, so I am not going to go into the supply and demand theories or other ways to explain why gas is so high. What it comes down to is greed and taking advantage of a situation to make money. Just look at the financial records of the big petroleum companies. They are all having a record year! They keep crying about how the hurricanes cause them to shut down production and cost them money for repairs, etc. etc. etc. I think this is just a way for them to try to justify raising the price some more. I guess I could go on for hours about all of this.

What can you do about it?

There is not a whole lot you can do about this. You could write letters to congressmen, governors, or the President. I do not know if that will make much of a difference. The situation will always exist as long as people keep paying the high prices for gas.

You can focus your attention on making more money for yourself and for your family. This could help you to make ends meet and better weather the storm of the higher costs of everything. Many people are turning to the Internet to help them make money, but the sad thing is that most people do not know how.

What is holding you back from having your own website? Most people have a limited understanding of HTML or PHP. Is this what is holding you back?

There are ways to create your own website without having to learn HTML, PHP, or any other scripting language. Most web hosting companies provide an HTML editor as part of your hosting package. You can usually access the HTML editor through your back end or C-Panel. This is typically a What You See Is What You Get or WYSIWYG type of editor. This type of editor is simple to use and is set up similar to MS Word and other windows based programs. There are menus and function buttons that enable you to change the fonts, change the colors, add images, create hyper links, and other common function that you would need to create your web page.

There may be limitations with the provided editor. For example there may be a limited number of templates to choose from. There may be limitations for adding header graphics or other customizations. Another option would be to use an editor on your personal computer and then upload the files to your web host server.

Free Options

There are a few free options that will do many of the functions that you need to create your website. One option is called KompoZer and is based on the NVU HTML editor. NVU is no longer supported. KompoZer added a few features to NVU and has a support forum. The user interface is easy to use and if you have used any windows based programs, then you should be able to use this program with ease. This is a WYSIWYG type of editor. This is an Open Source program and is free to use.

As you create your webpage in the editor, the HTML code is automatically written for your website. I often use my editor to create the code for hyper links that I add to my articles and other content which I submit to other websites. This makes it so much easier then writing the script each time. You type the text and highlight the just the part you want to be a link. Click on the “Insert Link” button and copy and paste your URL in the editing window. I usually check the box to make the link open in a new window. Then I go to the Source tab and copy the code and paste where I need it.

Paid Options

You could buy a website authoring program. The prices range from $20 – $400 or more. Some are easier to use. Some have more features then you may ever use. It is always a good idea to compare the features and try to get the best fit for you for the least amount of money. Unless you have a lot of money to spend, then you may not even consider the higher end programs. Here is a link to the Wikipedia article, Comparison of HTML Editors.

Of course some may consider the best option is to pay someone else to create your website. This may seem like the best fit for you, but consider the security risk. How do you know if the person that you trust to create your website is not making money from your website? The programmer could insert their own Affiliate links instead of yours. The programmer could set up leaching scripts to extract your customer information for their own purposes.

I believe that each person should learn enough about their website to be able to check for proper Affiliate Links. You should also be able to set up FTP accounts with limitations to just the directories needed for your programmer to add the scripts to get the job done. Old accounts should be deleted or at least change the passwords to protect your website after the work is done. You should be able to create and modify email accounts on your web host server. These are just the minimum requirements.

There are some free options that you can use to get your own website, webpage or a Blog. A fairly new website is Weebly and you can create a free website and/or Blog through their easy to use web creation interface. Once you create a free account then the rest is explained as you go. This is a really easy way to create a website or a Blog.

Squidoo is a free Social Media website that hosts user submitted content. You can create hosted webpages that do not cost you anything to create or host. This webpage is called a lens. You can make money with this webpage through Google AdSense, Amazon, eBay and other Affiliate Programs. Google AdSense will always be part of your webpage. You can add the others or choose not to have any, except Google AdSense. You can also choose to donate the money from your webpage to a variety of charities. HubPages is a free Social Media website that hosts user submitted content. You can create hosted webpages that do not cost you anything to create or host. This webpage is called a hub. You can make money with this webpage through Google AdSense, Amazon, eBay and other Affiliate Programs.

A Blog is a word that comes from two words web log, and is a log about you or anything you wish to write about. Some people use a Blog as an online diary. If you decide to do this, then make sure you do not give out personal information. A Blog is usually open for anyone to read. You can use a Blog to promote your product or service. You can also promote Affiliate products and services.

Google owns Blogger, which is a free Blogging website. You can create and host your Blog for free through this website. The creation tools are very easy to use and you should not have any problems creating your Blog posts. There is some help on the website if you have any problems.

WordPress is a free Blogging website. You can create and host your Blog for free through this website. WordPress has a few extra features that make this a better choice.

Other Options

It really is better to have your own website with a unique domain name that sets your website apart from the other websites on the Internet. Having your own website looks more professional and there are many benefits too. Most web hosting companies give you email accounts with your domain name. Which looks better to email your customers?

Most people would think the last email address would look more professional and would want to do business with you. Image is everything today. Also which website address would look more professional?

The first two are examples of website addresses through a free account and the last one is through a paid web host account. Most people would think the last one looks more professional. If you can spot the free hosting account, then so will your visitors.

I personally use and recommend two web hosting companies, IX Web Hosting and Site 5 Web Hosting. You will find that it will not cost as much as you may think to get your very own web hosting account and domain name. Most web hosting companies will give you one domain name as part of their package. You can find more web hosting companies by doing a Google search for “web hosting”.

Most web hosting companies also provide server side website creation tools as part of the package. Most of these tools are easy to use. You can also buy software to create your website on your personal computer and then upload the files to your web host server.

Search engines can bring a lot of traffic to your website. Article Marketing and Blogs can help you get listed with the search engines and can bring traffic to your website. Now we will look at some more methods to bring traffic to your website.

Social Media – Video

Social Media websites have been online for a few years now, but many people overlook these as a way to bring traffic to their website. Just look at the power of some of these websites. YouTube is by far the leader in Social Media. The number of videos that are hosted by this website is staggering, but even more impressive is the number of people that visit this website. Look at some of the statistics for the more popular videos. On the Featured Videos page I see one video that has over 590,000 views and I see three videos that have over 200,000 views. I have heard of older videos that have had over 1,000,000 views. You could create a video that relates to your product or service and post the video on YouTube. Just think of the traffic you could get just from that video!

As with all of the methods that are discussed you need to create a bio and include information about yourself and your company. You can also create a profile and an author information file. These may be termed differently, but the point is to provide information about yourself, your product (or service), your website and provide active links to your website. The active links do two things for you, one is the traffic from people clicking on the link, and the second is you will have a back link to your website from a high page rank website. The back link will help to increase your ranking with the search engines and then increase traffic from searches.

There are other websites that host video for you. These websites can also be used to bring traffic to your website. You can find other websites by doing a Google search for “share videos online” or “post video online”. A good rule to follow is to only use websites that allow active links in the author information for any video, audio or text posts that you make. Your goal should be to have as many back links as possible to your website.

Social Media – Other

Once you have a video posted on YouTube or any similar website, then you can embed the video on your website or on other Social Media websites. Squidoo is a very popular Social Media website that allows you to create webpages for FREE and even allows you to monetize the webpage and receive commissions. The webpage that you create is called a lens. Each lens can be embedded with video from YouTube, post photos, post articles, promote Affiliate products, promote eBay auctions and promote books through Amazon. You can promote your own products and services. You can promote your eBay auctions. You can promote your books that are listed with Amazon.

A similar website is HubPages and you can create webpages for FREE called hubs. You can monetize your hub and receive commissions. There are other Social Media websites that you can find to post your articles, videos and audio. You can find these by doing a Google Search for “social media sites”.

Search engines can bring a lot of traffic to your website, but now we will look at more methods to bring traffic to your website.

Article Marketing

This is a great way to get traffic to your website, because it works in two ways. People read your article and may click on your link or copy and paste your website address into their web browser. Also by posting articles on high page rank websites, then you can get high ranking back links to your website, which will help to increase your page rank with the search engines. Posting articles on article directory websites may also help you to get listed faster with the search engines. The search engines crawl these type of websites more often, because new content is constantly being added.

Find article directories that have a page rank of at least 3, but higher is certainly better. An easy way to find out page rank is to use FireFox web browser and the SEOQuake add on. After you load FireFox on your computer then you add SEOQuake from the link provided. It is very easy to use, just open a webpage in your FireFox web browser with SEOQuake installed and active. There is a new tool bar added at the top of the browser. You will see a lower case “g” for Google and “PR” for Page Rank. This is the Page Rank for the web page that is currently open in the browser window. How easy can it be?

When you do a search on the top search engines, then the results will include the SEOQuake information below each result. Do a search for “article directory” and you can easily spot the higher page rank websites. These are the ones that you want to target. Make sure you can add an active link in the author information, so you can get an active back link to your website. Always include your author information including your link.

Blog

The name comes from web log. These are a great way to get your presence on the Internet known. You can host your own Blog through your web host server by using WordPress. This is a great script and has a lot of features and plug ins that make it even better. A really nice feature is that each time you make a post the script automatically notifies pingomatic.com to ping your Blog and add it to their database of Blogs. You can also add other ping services. Search engines love Blogs, because most people add good content to their Blog on a regular basis.

You can also have your Blog hosted by other people. WordPress also has a hosting option. Google also offers a hosted Blog account through Blogger. You can find more hosted Blog options by doing a Google search for “hosted blog” or “blog account”. The problem with using a hosted account is that you will not have as many features as hosting your own WordPress Blog. Also the hosted accounts will include advertisements for the host company and may have Pay Per Click advertisements. These may detract from the message you want to give, or may induce your visitor to leave your blog.

There are advantages for using a hosted account. The top one is that you can add active links to your Blog posts and have back links from the high page rank Blog website. Another perk is that your Blog will be added to the search database for the Blog website. People will be able to find your Blog by browsing through the database or by searching for a related topic.
