Where Are You Heading?
Do you know where you are heading on the road of life? Do you know where you are now? Do you know where you have been? Think of your life as traveling down a road. When you are faced with a decision it is like meeting a fork in the road. Do you go right or do you go left?
In order to know which way to go, you need to know where the road leads. You have to know where you want to go. Once you decide your destination, then you can better map out a course to arrive at your destination. Most roads that you may travel on will have road signs that tell you which way to go to reach a city or other destination. The road signs may also tell you how far it is to that destination.
You must set a long term goal that is specific. If you want to make money, then how much money do you want to make? What time frame are you looking at? Be as specific with your goal as possible. How else will you know if you reach your goal? You also want to set realistic goals that are attainable.
Map Out Your Course
Before you start any journey, you first need to know where you are. Then you need to find where you are on a map. Look for your destination on the map, and then figure out the best route to get you where you need to go. Watch out for the dead ends! Watch out for the treacherous paths that could spell disaster for you.
In the same way you need to map out your way to meet your goal. In a journey you may have to stop at a few places along the road for a rest, for supplies, or for what ever reason that comes along. These are necessary to finish the journey. You may also need to have similar stops in order to meet your primary goal. These are called short term goals and mid term goals. They may include training or instruction that you need to reach your primary goal.
These are like mile markers that show you how far you have come in your journey. They may also give you the incentive to move on to next goal. “I have made it this far, so I go a little farther. Make sure you stay focused on the primary goal and set the short term goals and mid term goals so that they help you to meet the primary goal.
Where Is Your Compass?
It is a good idea to use a compass once in a while to make sure you are heading in the right direction. When you set out to achieve your primary goal it is good to talk to someone else, such as a friend or a family member. Tell them what you are trying to do and ask them to help you meet your primary goal. They can act as a compass for you.
Ask them to check on you once a week or some other regular period of time. Have them ask you about your progress. What have you done in this time to reach your goal? What short term goals have you already reached? What are your plans to reach the next goal? This can go a long way in helping you to remain on track and focused.
