Do You Properly Maintain Your Website?

When you first create your website you are excited about the website and the possibilities that it may bring. After the website is up and running that excitement may wear off. When you first published your website and made it live on the Internet, you may have checked all the links on each page to make sure they worked. When was the last time you even looked at your website?

Here is a problem. When you link to other websites on the Internet from your website, then you run the risk of having a broken link. The website may have closed down, or due to some modifications to the website, the web page that you were linking to may not be a valid any more. This means that when your visitor clicks on the broken link, they will be taken to an error page instead of to the web page you were linking them to. Your visitor may conclude that your website is old and no longer useful, which means they will not come back and will not recommend your website to others.

There are similar problems to links for other web pages on your own website. You may have made modifications to your website addressing or deleted some older web pages. You may have created a new web page with a slightly different address. These actions could result in broken links on your website. This means that when your visitor clicks on the broken link, they will be taken to an error page instead of to the web page you were linking them to. Your visitor may conclude that your website is old and no longer useful, which means they will not come back and will not recommend your website to others.

Another problem is the hackers. Many people that have websites find that their website has been hacked. A hacker may find a small security flaw or other exploit and take over your website. It is common to see the whole website erased and a new home page with the hacker’s victory statement and maybe a link to a hacker website where they boast about hacking your website. I am not sure why they do this, but it does happen.

As you can see there are many problems that can occur to cause your website to not function the way that you intended it to. These things can all impact your website traffic and any income potential that you may have with your website. Therefore it is suggested that you check your website on a regular basis. You may want to open up the home page once a week or so to make sure the website is still operational. You may want to click on every link on you website once a month or so. If you have a large website, then you may not be able to do the checks on the whole website every time. So the frequency of your checks may depend on how busy you are, how many websites you have and how large your website is.

An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. It is important to ensure that your website is secure. It is also important to find problems early to prevent a complete loss of traffic to your website. These all factor into how often you should check and maintain your website.

I wish you success in all your legitimate business ventures and in your every day life too!

This is the second part of a series about getting easy back links to your website. You may want to read the previous article to find out what you missed.

How Can You Get Easy Back Links to Your Website?

Blogs

You can create your own Blogs on hosted Blog servers such as Blogger or WordPress. Hosted Blogs are usually free, but will display advertisements that promote products and services for the host. You can include back links in the signature of your posts or in the body of the post. Make sure you use SEO keyword rich anchor text for each active link that points to your website. You can use the Blog to write reviews for products that you are promoting.

Another way to get good quality back links is to look for other people’s Blogs that have a high Page Rank. Look for Blogs that allow comments and active links in the signatures. You can do a Google search for “your niche + blog” and replace the words “your niche” with your product, service or niche. Do not make the mistake of just promoting your website, because this will get your comments deleted. Provide a good comment about the post or add some information that compliments the information in the post. Make sure you sign the comment with your name and an active link to your website using SEO keyword rich anchor text. It is considered bad manors to post a short comment like “Great Post” or something similar just to get your active link. It also considered bad manors and spam to have a whole list of active links after your comment.

Social Media Websites

A really good source for easy back links is the Social Media websites such as YouTube and Squidoo. These are high Page Rank websites that allow you to add content for free. You can create a video about your products or services and upload the video to YouTube or other video hosting websites. Make sure you create an Author’s Box and include information about you and your products and services. Make sure you include an active link to your website using SEO keyword rich anchor text.

Squidoo lets you create a web page on their website called a Lens. You can create as many as you want. You can add video from YouTube and other sources. You can add audio and images too. Try to use the various media to create visual web pages that people will enjoy and will share with others. Make sure your content is good quality and has useful information.

Back Links From Other Websites

If your website has good content, then you can also get back links from the people that visit your website. People like good information and often times will add links on their own websites to other websites that provide good content. This can occur without your request. These links will usually not use SEO keyword rich anchor text and may not be as beneficial as one that does. One thing to keep in mind is that Page Rank is a popularity contest so the more links the better regardless of having SEO keyword rich anchor text.

One of the best sources for traffic on the Internet is the Search Engines. You can use this source to bring traffic to your website and it does not cost you anything. It is best to get a high ranking in the search results so that your website is shown in the first spot on the search results page. You may have heard of Search Engine Optimization and this is part of the picture to get your website listed in the top of the list, but there is more involved. You need to have a high Page Rank and this can only be accomplished by getting good quality back links to website form other websites that have a high Page Rank. Search Engine Optimization is not enough to get a higher Page Rank.

You are probably wondering how to get these back links for your website. There are many ways to do this and I will highlight a few in this post. The first thing to do is to decide on some good landing pages for your website. A landing page can be any web page on your website. One of the best choices would be a web page with an opt-in form, so you can build your list. Once you have decided on a few landing pages, then you can start creating back links.

Article Directories

This is an easy way to get back links to your website. You write and article or have someone else write an article for you and use these to post on the Article Directories. You can find Article Directories by doing a Google search for “article directory”. Look for Article Directories with a high Page Rank and that allows you to create an Author Box with active links. Use SEO techniques to create a good keyword rich anchor text for the active link to your website. Create your Author box and use the links. Every time you post an article you will now have a good quality back link to your website.

Discussion Groups and Forums

You can find some high Page Rank discussion groups or forums that compliment the products and/or services that you offer through your website. You can do a Google search for “your niche +forum” or “your niche + group” and put your niche, product or service in place of the words “your niche” in the search. Make sure that you read the FAQ and any other rules for the forum or group before you post anything. Make sure that you can add active links in your signature for posts on the forum or group. Create a good signature that includes your name and at least one active link to your website with SEO anchor text.

To start out look for people that are asking questions that you can answer. Post replies to the questions that you are knowledgeable about. This will help build credibility for you in the minds of the community. Once you have answered some questions and provided good information, then you can move on to creating new posts or threads. Make sure each post contains good useful information and this will go far to strengthen your credibility.

New Computer Has Been Set Back!

I was looking forward to getting my new computer built and start loading the Operating System and other software. Yesterday when the last of the parts arrived, I set out to build my new computer. I started by preparing the case.

The case came with a 500W power supply. I opened the case and located the hardware, which is found in a small box hidden in a secret compartment in the bottom of the case. I felt like James Bond. LOL The case has two side doors that are hinged. The small box contains the stand-offs and screws to mount the motherboard and the drives.

I started to prepare the motherboard. I installed the new CPU in the socket and locked it in place. Then I applied the thermal paste on the CPU and mounted the fan unit on the CPU. I chose to use the fan that came with the CPU. I installed the four memory modules and the fan assembly that came with the memory kit. The fan assembly will help keep the memory modules cool, which is needed for overclocking. I may not need to overclock this computer, but it is good to know that I can.

The motherboard comes with a customized face plate for the IO connections. I removed the one that came installed in the case. I installed the new face plate. Then I mounted the motherboard on the stand-offs. Everything is looking good so far.

Mounting the graphics card was not hard. The graphics card that I got has an extra plug for power. There is a custom plug and harness with two plugs. This should have tipped me off to a potential problem, but I overlooked it. More on this later.

I installed the DVD player and DVD/CD burner in the frame in the locations that open to the front of the case. I installed the two hard drives. This was kind of tricky, because the graphics card stands out from the motherboard and blocks some of the locations for hard drives. I had to close the side with the motherboard attached to see where to mount the new hard drives.

Now it was time to start connecting the power supply to the motherboard and the accessories. I noticed that the motherboard had an extra connection for the auxiliary power for the PCIE slots. This means that the graphics card has three connectors for 12V power. Again this should have tipped me off to a potential problem, but I overlooked it. I also noticed that the power supply did not have enough connectors for the 12V power to connect up all the case fans and accessories.

After connecting all the power to the motherboard and accessories, then I shut up the case and moved it to my office. I connected the new monitor and got the computer ready to turn on. I expected the computer to come up with out any problems, but that was not the case. After some troubleshooting and a call to the graphics card manufacturer, I discovered that the graphics card requires a 12V supply that can output 24A. The power supply that came with the case could only output 22A. This is why I did not get any output from the graphics card.

Mental note, next time pay attention to the little red flags! Three 12V connectors for one graphics card should have tipped me off to the extra current needed to run the graphics card. Also the fact that I did not have enough connectors should have been a tip off as well that the power supply was not big enough. I guess I ignored these red flags, because I really wanted the new computer to work. Live and learn!

Now I have to order a better power supply with more then 24A output on the 12V supply. I opted for a 750W power supply that has 60A output on the 12V supply. This is the “Binford 2000″ model for all you Tool Time fans (From the TV show called Home Improvement). LOL The new power supply will not arrive until next Wednesday. I will have to wait a little more before I can get my new computer running.

I will keep you up to date on my new computer when I get the power supply.

I wish you success in all your legitimate business ventures and in your every day life too!

Sincerely,

Jim Van Dyke

If you have been an online marketer for a while now, then you may have heard about Resell Rights products. I have some previous posts that describe the various types of rights that you can purchase with digital information products. You can read the following posts to find out more information about Resell Rights products.

Resell Rights Information Products
How To Get Resell Rights Information Products

You may already own some digital information products. Most digital information products come with personal use or User Rights, which means you can not sell them. You may even find some products that come with Giveaway Rights, which means that you can only give these away to other people. Do you know if you have any digital information products that came with Resell Rights? What can you do with these digital information products?

Create Internet Shortcuts

Typically you can not make changes to the digital information products. But you can create Internet Shortcuts for your landing pages, sales pages or your Blog and include these in a separate folder called “Bonus” or what ever you want. This folder can then be included in the zip file that you give with the purchase of the product. You can create an Internet Shortcut in Windows by right clicking on a blank place in an open folder of your choosing. Then select “New” from the menu and click on “Shortcut”. Once the “Create Shortcut” window opens, then you can copy and paste the desired URL in the box. Click next and you will be prompted to name your new Internet Shortcut. You can pick a name that describes your offer, product or website, then click “Finish” and your new Internet Shortcut will be created in the folder.

Create a new folder that describes the digital product that you intend to sell. Use lower case letters and numbers separated by hyphens or underscore lines. Now copy the product file(s) to the new folder that you created. Copy the “Bonus” folder with your Internet Shortcuts to the new folder. After you have done this, then you can create a zip of the entire new folder that you created and copied to. Use WinZip or a free compression utility that you can find online using a Google search for “free compression utility” or “free zip program”.

What this does for you is to give a viral affect to your Resell Rights products. The creator of the product will usually include links within the product to his own website, landing page, sales page or Blog. You may not have the right to make any changes to the product, but by including these Internet Shortcuts with the product, then you can promote your other products with each sale.

Sell Resell Rights Products on Your Website

You can create a “Buy Now” button through PayPal if you have a PayPal account set up to receive payments. One of the options in the set-up of the “Buy Now” button is the URL for the “Thank You” page. You can create a “Thank You” page for your customer to download the product. You need to have an active link on the page and instructions for the customer to download the file. There are other ways to accomplish this, but this is the easiest way that I have found.

You need to create a sales page that highlights the benefits of your product and describes your product. You may also want to include Testimonials if possible. You need to create the Thank You page with the active link to download the product. Then you need to upload these pages and your product file to your web host server. Check out the download link and the Buy Now button to make sure they work.

Send traffic to your sales page and you can make money 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. Once this all set up, you just sit back and watch the sales come in. For this product all you need to do is check the links once in a while and send traffic to the sales page. Then you can focus on the next product.

You can have access to a large number of Resell Rights, Master Resell Rights and Private Label Rights products that you can download and sell on your own website. Sign up for my information packed FREE Newsletter and you will receive a free report that gives you more tips to make money with your own website. You will also be given an opportunity to purchase a step by step guide that explains how to create and maintain an Internet Marketing website. This offer also comes with a free month access to the Webmaster Gold Membership. You will be able to download a large number of new digital information products with Resell Rights, Master Resell Rights or Private Label Rights.
