This is a continuation of yesterday’s post. You may want to read that post first:

Search Engine Optimization – Attract The Only Search Engines That Matter

We have already considered the top Search Engine – Google, which has approximately 43.7% of all searches made online. There are two more search engines to consider. Search Engine Optimization plays a big part in how your web page is ranked in the search results pages of these Search Engines.

Yahoo

It may be hard to recall, but Yahoo was the most popular website in the world. Google took over the lead a few years ago. Yahoo has estimated over 58.9 Million searches every day. This is approximately 28.8% of all searches made online. Yahoo also offers some other services that can help webmasters to promote their websites.

Yahoo ranks your web pages based on relevance of information on each web page. Search Engine Optimization will help you have a higher ranking. Web page ranking also depends on the popularity of your web page and how many links to your web page come from other websites. Yahoo is a little lenient on the quality of the links and will often count links that Google ignores. It is a good possibility that you will rank higher with Yahoo then you will with Google for this and other reasons.

Yahoo Search Marketing is a Pay Per Click program that is very similar to Google AdWords. This program was formerly known as Overture, but was bought by Yahoo. Your success and the price you Pay Per Click depends very heavily on Search Engine Optimization. If your website is not designed with SEO in mind then you will end up paying a lot more for each click. Your advertisement may not be shown as much, because your advertisement will be so far from the top that people may never see your advertisement.

Yahoo also has a Beta program that is similar to Google AdSense, but at this point I am not sure if it is operating. I personally tried to join the program , but did not get very far in the process. Yahoo is currently using a different Affiliate program that is operated by Commission Junction. You can use this program to promote Yahoo products and services as well as many other products and services offered by a wide variety of companies through Commission Junction.

MSN – Windows Live Search

The last search engine that we will consider is MSN Search, which is now known as Windows Live Search. Windows Live Search has estimated over 27.7 Million searches every day. This is approximately 12.8% of all searches made online. Windows Live Search has indexed over 7 Billion web pages, which is approximately 1/3 of Google, but still notable.

Microsoft adCenter is their Pay Per Click program. This program is still growing, but is not nearly as large as Google AdWords or Yahoo Search Marketing. Microsoft had used Yahoo for a number a years, but decided to break away from their relationship in 2006.

What About The Other Search Engines?

You are probably wondering about the rest of the search engines out there. Consider that the top three search engines monoplize the search market with approximately 85.3% of all searches made online. Also consider that most of the hundreds of other search engines are either owned, partially owned, or are supplied with information by the top three search engines. Now consider that less than 15% of all searches made online are divided among the hundreds of other search engines. Is it worth your time and effort to worry about the smaller search engines?

Once you get listed on the top three search engines the rest will follow suit and you will be listed with them before too long. You can get more information about Search Engine Optimization by clicking on “Search Engine Optimization” or “SEO” in the Tags on the right side of this web page. You can also do a search in the box at the top of the web page.

You can also find a lot more information in the membership area on this website which contains a large selection of instructional videos, digital information and software. More than half of all online sales are the direct result of search engine results. More and more people are using the search engines to find products and services online. Wouldn’t it be great to get a portion of those sales for yourself? This is why Search Engine Optimization or SEO for short is so important to you and your success online.

Google

Google is by far the top of all Search Engines. Google has more web pages indexed in their database than any other search engine. There is an estimated 89.8 Million searches every day. This is approximately 43.7% of all searches made online. Google offers a wide range of services to help webmasters to promote their websites.

Google ranks your web pages based on relevance of information on each web page. Search Engine Optimization will help you have a higher ranking. Web page ranking also depends on the popularity of your web page and how many links to your web page come from other websites.

Google AdWords is the top Pay Per Click (PPC) program online. Your success and the amount of money you Pay Per Click depends heavily on Search Engine Optimization. If your website is not designed with SEO in mind then you will end up paying a lot more for each click. Your advertisement may not be shown as much, because your advertisement will be so far from the top that people may never see your advertisement.

Google AdSense is a way for webmasters to make money through showing advertisements on their website. This is an Affiliate program that pays you for every click you get on the advertisements shown on your website. These are the same Google AdWords Pay Per Click advertisements that are shown on the Google search results pages. The advertisements are selected automatically based on the relevant information on your web page. You copy and paste code on your web pages that display the advertisements and the rest is done automatically.

The amount of money you get for each click depends on the keywords and key phrases that are used to display the advertisements. By selecting higher paying keywords and key phrases you can generate higher commissions per click. By providing good information that people will want to read you increase the amount of traffic to your web page and this will mean that the advertisements are seen by more people. These things all contribute to making higher commission per click.

Google Analytics is a free service provided by Google that will help you monitor the traffic to your website. You can find a lot of information about the visitors to your website. You can see what Operating System they are using, what web browser they are using, what website directed them to your website, what search term(s) they used, what web pages they visited on your website, how long they stayed on your website and if they have ever been to your website before.

This is all very useful information that will help you build and tweak your website or web pages to attract more people and make them stay longer. For example if you see that people are coming to your web page by searching for a related keyword or key phrase, then you could design a new web page that highlights that keyword or key phrase. This way you will be providing good information about the things that people are searching for.

You will want to come back tomorrow to read part two of this series to find out about the other Search Engines that matter and how to attract them with Search Engine Optimization. In the mean time you could check out this Free Report that will help you make money with your own website!

I wish you success in all your legitimate business ventures and in your every day life too!

I have several websites that are general in nature and therefore a wide range of topics. I see many other websites that have a similar wide range of topics. For Search Engine Optimization (SEO) you need to have a more narrow range of topics that are closely related.

You can still create a website with a wide range of topics. You need to create sections for your website and you need to group closer related topics together in the group. I can illustrate this with the example of a pet supply website. Your home page will be used to link all parts of your website together. Your home page address should look like this:

www.your-domain-name.com/index.html

The pet supplies should then be grouped in general groups based on animal type. The main page for the general group will then link to all parts of the general group. Let’s look at dog supplies for example. The main page address for the dog supplies should look like this:

www.your-domain-name/dog/index.html

The dog supplies should then be grouped in more specific groups based on the type of dog supply. The main page for the specific groups will then link to all parts of the specific group. Let’s look at dog collars for example. The main page address for the dog collars should look like this:

www.your-domain-name/dog/dog-collars/index.html

You could create more specific groups depending on the amount of information available for the specific groups. The main page of the more specific group would then link to all parts of the more specific group. Let’s look at small dog collars for example. The main page address for the small dog collars should look like this:

www.your-domain-name/dog/dog-collars/small-dog-collars/index.html

This may seem like a lot of work, but the boost in your Search Engine Optimization and the resulting higher page ranking with the search engines will make it worth your time and effort. What this does for you is create mini websites on your complete website. Each part would be closely related in topic and would then be viewed as an information authority by the search engines.

All webpages in a group should link to other pages in the group and to the main webpage for the group. This makes the main webpage in each group the hub for the group. This makes your website more organized for the search engine to crawl your website and provides the internal link structure that is necessary for search engine crawling and logging of your website.

The best time to do the structuring of your website is when you are building it. It will require a complete overhaul if you wait until after the website is created.

You can see a live demonstration of this website structure at the following website:

Notice how the structure is similar to the pet supply website example. You can use this structure for any type of website that you are designing.

Would you like to add to your website? There are complete website packages available for you to download in the membership area of this website. You can see what the packages look like on live websites by clicking on this link and then clicking on the links for the specific package that you are interested in seeing.

There are many more digital products available for download with Resell Rights, Master Resell Rights, or Private Label Rights. These products can be sold for 100% profit. You can sign up for membership and start downloading immediately after your payment is processed and you have confirmed your information.

The key to Search Engine Optimization is to implement the structure when you are designing your website.

I wish you success in all your legitimate business ventures and in your every day life too!

What is Search Engine Optimization?

You have probably heard this term before or seen the abbreviation SEO, but do you know what it means? It could mean the difference between getting traffic to your website or not. Search engines are used by many people today to search the Internet to find information about a wide variety of topics. People use search engines to find products to buy and to find information about the things that concern them.

When you do a search through any of the top search engines you get results of two types. The results that are usually shown at the top of the results and often on the right side are paid advertisements called Pay Per Click or PPC. The results that are shown in the main body are called organic search results and these are what will be considered at this time.

All search results are ranked based on the relevance of the webpage to the search. When you do a search you enter a word or a group of words into the box and then click the button labeled “Search”. These are called the search terms. A single term is called a keyword and a group of terms are called a key phrase. The search engines compile a huge database of all the webpages they find on the Internet and rank the pages based on popularity and content. When you do a search you are actually search through the database that the search engine has compiled.

For example if you are looking for a dog collar, you would enter the key phrase “dog collar” in the search box and click the “Search” button. The search engine would then look through it’s database to find webpages that use the phrase dog collar on the webpage. The webpages with more uses of the key phrase are considered more relevant. Webpages with more traffic are ranked higher. Another consideration is how many other websites link to that webpage. These factors are all considered and contribute to what position a webpage will have in the search results. The search results will usually show 10 webpages per results page and you can navigate through the results to decide which page(s) you want to look at.

Most people will click on the link to the webpages that have the highest rank and are shown first. Your goal as a webmaster or an owner of a website should be to get your webpages listed in the top ten search results and #1 position is the most desired. To do this you will need to make sure that your webpages are Search Engine Optimized.

Decide on a Keyword or Key Phrase

You need to decide on a targeted keyword or key phrase for each of your webpages. The targeted keyword or key phrase should be the main topic for the webpage and be relevant to the information you have on the webpage. The targeted keyword or key phrase should also be one that people use to search for the information you have on the webpage. You can use a Keyword Suggestion Tool to help you decide on the keyword or key phrase to target.

Once you have selected the keyword or key phrase that you want to target for the webpage, then you can optimize the webpage based on that keyword or key phrase. The targeted keyword or key phrase should be in the name of the webpage, such as www.yourdomain.com/keyword.html or www.yourdomain.com/keyphrase.php This is very important and you should make every effort to follow this guideline.

The Title of the Webpage should also use the targeted keyword or keyphrase. The Title is the text that appears at the very top of your web browser when you open a webpage. The Title is part of the meta tags for your webpage and can be changed in the source code of your webpage. The title should be repeated in the body of your webpage and should have the main header (h1) tag.

The targeted keyword or key phrase should be used and repeated a few times in the body of your webpage. The number of times to repeat the targeted keyword or key phrase depends on the total number of words used on the whole webpage. This is called the keyword density and is calculated with this formula.

Number of times Keyword is Repeated / Total Number of Words X 100

Your keyword density should be between 2% and 5%. You also want to close the body of the webpage with your keyword or key phrase, so that the keyword or key phrase is in the last sentence on the webpage.

The last part to consider is the footer of your webpage. Your targeted keyword or key phrase should also be used in the footer of your webpage. The best way to do that is to add it to your copyright statement, and it would appear like this at the bottom of your webpage.

Webpage Title with Keyword or Key Phrase

Copyright © 2008 www.yourdomain.com All Rights Reserved.

This is the basics for Search Engine Optimization and these guidelines will help you to make your webpage rank higher for the targeted keyword or key phrase. There is a lot more information to consider about your page ranking with the search engines. Search Engine Optimization is only a part of the equation. My next post will consider how links affect your page ranking.

I wish you success in all your legitimate business ventures and in your every day life too!

Jim Van Dyke
